Hell’s Gate at Il Ciocco, Lucca, is one of the hardest enduro competitions in the world, comparable to Herberg Hare Scramble: about 100 riders took part of 2012 race, but only for made it to the finish line. And it is not just the ten hours of riding in the woods, but some of the climbs are so steep it is simple impossible to get to the top without the help of fans and spectators.
Graham Jarvis is the winner of 2012 edition, being the first one to climb the Hell’s Peak, the impossible ascent that marks the final part of the race.

Taking pictures of the race was a hell itself, climbing uphill with a heavy backpack full of equipment and flashes. At least the spectators were always ready to share a beer! You can see more photos here.

Trofeo Memorial Bettega sure is one of the highlights of Bologna Motor Show: the best WRC drivers and other motorsports racers compete on a tarmac and mud circuit.
For winter 2011 edition, Red Bull produced a video featuring MX champion Antonio Cairoli and Moto GP rider Andrea Dovizioso. Both had a lot of fun making donuts and driving full speed on closed streets. I was there shooting action photos and portraits.

I first met Jacopo Carozzi about three years ago as he came to the IUTER head quarter to get some free clothes and stickers: he was a shy twelve years old kid, too small for the XS tshirt, so he walked away with loads of women tshirts!
During this time I had the opportunity to see Jacopo grow both as a skater and a person. Needless to say, his skating is getting better and better, destrying any spot (street, rail, park, transition, you name it); it won’t be long since he will get the proper attention from an international audience. Too bad Jacopo evolved from a quit, shy child to an annoying adolescent with a bad smoking habit: nevertheless, travelling with this ginger boy is always a lot of fun!

Lately I wasn’t massively on the road with my pals Simone Barraco and Stefan Lantschner, but still I got the chance to shoot their latest actions.
During the summer I was at Stefan hometown Bozen to check for a new spot, some kind of tree ride where Simone busted any kind of trick, from condors to flairs to tobbogas. It was the tobboga that was chosen by US magazine Transworld Ride BMX for its content page on 177 issue.
In the following days I followed Stefan and Simone for a shooting for Baco Magazine, and one of Simone’s pics (another tobboga, but 180 this time) was used by his bike sponsor Shadow Conspiracy for international advertising.
Meanwhile I was collecting Stefan images for an interview on RideUK that was published on December issue. It’s a ten pages article packed with senseless riding. One of the trick (the curved wall over a wide gap) was so dangerous I had to wear an helmet just to take the photo! A Day with chef Pino Lavarra

Hangar 7 in Salzburg is Red Bull aircraft museum, and it includes the Michelin starred restaurant Ikarus.
Every month the restaurant hosts a guest chef, and soon it will be time for Campania based chef Pino Lavarra. I spent a long day with him in Amalfi coast, shooting everything from reportage on fisherman boats where Pino buys fresh fish, to food still life, to portraits to architecture photos of Palazzo Sasso restaurant
The pictures will be published on Hangar 7 magazine.

Alessandro Barbero in Langhe

Red Bull gave me the change to witness, once again, the incredible riding of Alessandro Barbero. Alessandro was one of the very first BMX riders I got on film, and we shared a lot of miles travelling everywhere from european contests to US training in Woodward.
So I was glad to shoot Alessandro in action in the magical surroundings of Barbaresco hills, an unique, all vineyards landscape in the Langhe. You can see more pictures on Red Bull website.

Summer 2011 climbs

This summer I spent a lot of time in the montains, and for once I wasn’t shooting other people having fun on a board or a bike: I was the one enjoying the ride (and sweating a lot).

With a growing passion for cycling and an obsession for climbs, I’m focusing on most famous passes, like the ones pictured on the left: the infamous Sella circle in the Dolomiti and the hors-catégorie Col du Galibier in the French Alps. But I also love panoramic roads like Combe Laval, a XIX century road suspended on Vercors cliffs near Grenoble.

With the season coming to end, I am forced to pedal for longer distances on flat surface (boring), studying elevation profiles of next year climbs.

Vans Spring Classic 2011

The VANS Off The Wall Spring Classic is a one of a kind skateboard contest that gathers the best miniramp skaters of the world on the sunny beach of Varazze, Italy. About 5.000 people come for the contest and the afterparties.
Dani Leon (flip sad to fakie) was one of the best skater of the weekend, winning the Bingo award; Tobias Fleisher (flip FS board) and Fernando Bramsmark (frontside nose) were the ones rocking in the double set street contest.
